Founder’s Day celebration - June 21
This summer marks the third anniversary of our temple’s opening, and we’ll be hosting our annual Founder’s Day ceremony and celebration on Sunday, June 21, at 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Join us online or at Sensouji for a ceremony, followed by a potluck lunch. Please sign up if you plan to come (and if you’ll be there in person, let us know what you can bring for lunch). To help with planning, we ask that you sign up by Friday, June 19, if you’re coming in person.
The THZ podcast is back
We’re happy to announce that the Thousand Harbours Zen podcast is back up and running after a hiatus. There are some new episodes available wherever you get your podcasts.
Many thanks to Nyokai Cornett for all his work to make that happen.

- Sangha walk: Sunday, July 19 (tentative)
- Public talk from Koun: Saturday, August 2, 5-7 pm at St. Andrew’s United Church, Halifax
- Weekend retreat: Friday, September 11 – Sunday, September 13, at Gittens Lodge in Manganese Mines, NS, and online
Schedule updates
We’ve had a few changes to our weekly schedule, and these recurring events have finished for now:
- 9:30 am zazen, Monday – Friday
- Zen Mind, Neurodiverse Mind group, Thursdays
- Nagarjuna study group, Saturdays
Ringing bells for morning zazen
There are a few days this summer when we need volunteers to ring the bells for 6:30 am zazen. You can sign up for the days you’d like to cover.
Chanting for Peace with Cedar Rapids Zen Center
The Cedar Rapids Zen Center is meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 8:30 pm Atlantic Time (7:30 Eastern, 6:30 Central) to chant for peace. They’ll chant the Enmei Jukku Kannon Gyo 108 times. Following chanting, participants have the opportunity to dedicate merit to those who have died or who are suffering.
